History

Dafra Pharma International was incorporated in 1996 and started its activities in 1997.

It is a private family owned Belgian pharmaceutical company, established by Mr. Bruno Jansen (CEO) in close collaboration with his father, Dr Frans Herwig Jansen. The headquarters are located in Turnhout, Belgium.

While Dr Frans Herwig Jansen and his R&D team were responsible for the continuous research and development of new antimalarial treatments based on artemisinin derivatives, hereby strictly following the recommendations of the WHO, Bruno Jansen created a very successful distribution and promotion network in Africa in order to introduce the new antimalarial medications in the African market and in a few Asian and South American countries.

The continuous growth of this unique African medical distribution network would not have been possible without the energetic engagement and loyalty of the African regional and countrymanagers.

In 1998 Ousmane Macinanke joined Dafra Pharma International and in 2000 he became the head of Dafra Promotion Afrique (DPA), at that time in Ivory Coast. Nowadays DPA is located in Mali (Bamako). This African office was and is responsible for the registration, promotion, marketing of Dafra Pharma International’s antimalarial medications in most of the French speaking African countires.

In 2001 Dafra Pharmaceuticals Ltd was established in Johannesburg, Pretoria having the responsibility for the registration, promotion, marketing and sales of Dafra Pharma International’s antimalarial medications in most English speaking African countries.

In order to improve service levels in Africa, Dafra Pharma International has established local representative offices in Nigeria, Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2005.

In 2006, the African subsidiaries became fully licensed pharmaceutical companies.

Sourcing and distribution of pharmaceutical raw materials from Asia has been allocated to Dafra Hong Kong Ltd since 2006.

In 2007 Dafra Pharma International was established to regroup all the different Dafra Pharma companies worldwide under one holding.

Dafra Pharma International Research & Development bvba.

Apart from employing highly qualified scientific staff, joint ventures and partnerships have been set up with several universities, centres for research in Tropical Medicine and contract research centres.
